Industrial Screw Conveyor Systems — What We Make

Neo Conveyors is a leading screw conveyor manufacturer in India, supplying custom-engineered industrial auger conveyor systems since 2007. Our screw conveyors — also called auger conveyors — use a rotating helical screw blade to move bulk materials in a fully enclosed, dust-controlled flow across horizontal, inclined, or vertical paths.

We manufacture five distinct variants — U-trough, tubular, vertical, shaftless, and inclined screw conveyors — each optimised for specific materials, throughput capacities, and plant layouts. Every system is designed and fabricated at our Ghaziabad manufacturing facility and installed by our own engineers PAN India.

How It Works

How a Screw Conveyor (Auger Conveyor) Works

A screw conveyor moves bulk materials through a simple, reliable four-component mechanism. Understanding the principle helps you specify the right type for your material and process.

  1. Material Inlet

Bulk material (powder, granule, or pellet) enters the screw conveyor through an inlet hopper or feed chute. Feed rate is controlled by an inlet gate or screw feeder.

  2. Rotating Screw Flight

A helical screw blade (flight) is welded around a central shaft and enclosed in a U-trough or tube. As the shaft rotates, the flights push material forward — like a large rotating bolt through a nut.

  3. Geared Motor Drive

A geared motor connected to one end of the screw shaft drives rotation. VFD speed control allows precise adjustment of material flow rate (TPH). The motor is sized to the material's bulk density and friction characteristics.

  4. Enclosed Dust-Free Discharge

Material exits through an outlet spout at the far end. The fully enclosed trough or tube prevents dust leakage — critical for cement, fly ash, chemical powder, and food-grade materials.

Auger conveyor flow, in order:
  1. Material enters at inlet hopper / feed chute
  2. Geared motor rotates helical screw shaft
  3. Flights push material along trough or tube
  4. VFD adjusts speed → controls flow rate (TPH)
  5. Dust-free discharge at outlet spout
  6. Horizontal / inclined / vertical — all in one unit

Important: screw conveyors are best for free-flowing to moderately cohesive bulk materials. For sticky, fibrous, or high-moisture materials, a shaftless screw conveyor is recommended. Ask our engineers →

5 Types of Screw Conveyor Systems We Manufacture

Each screw conveyor variant is designed for a specific application, material type, and installation condition.

Most common

U-Trough Screw Conveyor

The standard industrial workhorse. Open-top trough with a rotating screw — best for horizontal transport of grain, cement, sugar, fly ash, and chemical granules. Easy to clean and inspect. Fills to 30–45% capacity. Available in MS and SS304/SS316.

Fully enclosed

Tubular Screw Conveyor

Fully enclosed pipe body — ideal for fine powders, hazardous chemicals, and food-grade materials that must not contact air or environment. Handles fly ash, cement, pharmaceutical powder, and spices without leakage. Can transport at inclinations up to 45°.

View Tubular Screw Conveyor →

Vertical lift

Vertical Screw Conveyor

Elevates bulk material straight up — 90° vertical installation. Requires minimal floor space compared to bucket elevators. Used for grain, sugar, fertilizer, and cement elevation between floors or silos. High-speed screw generates centrifugal discharge at the top outlet.

Sticky materials

Shaftless Screw Conveyor

No central shaft — the spiral screw operates inside a wear-resistant liner without a bearing through the material. Prevents clogging with sticky, fibrous, or high-moisture materials: sludge, wet biomass, municipal solid waste, cake material from filter presses.

View Shaftless Screw Conveyor →

Inclined

Inclined Screw Conveyor

Standard screw conveyor modified for inclinations from 15° to 45°. At steeper angles, material slippage is controlled through optimised screw pitch and RPM. Used to convey materials between different floor levels within a single enclosed unit — replacing complex transfer points.

Frequently Asked Questions

Screw Conveyor — Industrial Buyer FAQs

What is a screw conveyor and how does it work?

A screw conveyor (also called an auger conveyor) uses a rotating helical screw blade inside a U-trough or tube to push bulk material from inlet to outlet. A geared motor drives the shaft. It can transport material horizontally, at an inclination up to 45°, or vertically (90°). The enclosed design makes it ideal for powders, granules, and dusty bulk materials.

What is the difference between a U-trough and tubular screw conveyor?

A U-trough screw conveyor has an open-top semicircular trough — easier to clean and inspect, typically used for grain, sugar, and granules. A tubular (pipe) screw conveyor is fully enclosed in a round tube — used for fine powders, fly ash, chemicals, and food-grade materials that must not contact air or environment. Tubular types also handle inclined and vertical transport more efficiently.

What is the capacity of a screw conveyor?

Neo Conveyors designs screw conveyors from 1 TPH to 50 TPH depending on screw diameter (100–600 mm), RPM, inclination angle, and material bulk density. Capacity is calculated using standard engineering formulas for each specific material. Contact our engineers at +91-9654112235 with your material details for a free capacity calculation.

Can screw conveyors handle food-grade and pharmaceutical materials?

Yes. Neo Conveyors manufactures food-grade screw conveyors in SS304 and SS316 with polished interiors, food-grade mechanical seals, and hygienic end covers. These are used for flour, sugar, spices, milk powder, pharmaceutical API, and similar materials requiring contamination-free, GMP-compliant handling.

What is the price of a screw conveyor in India?

Screw conveyor price in India depends on type (U-trough, tubular, vertical, shaftless), screw diameter, length, material of construction (MS/SS304/SS316), drive power, and required capacity (TPH). MS screw conveyors are significantly lower cost than SS variants. Contact Neo Conveyors at +91-9654112235 or sales@neoconveyors.com for a detailed, no-obligation quotation.

What is the difference between a screw conveyor and a belt conveyor for powder handling?

A screw conveyor is fully enclosed — essential for powder, fly ash, cement, and fine granules that generate dust or require containment. A belt conveyor is open — better for lump materials, coal, aggregate, and long-distance horizontal transport. For cement powder, fly ash, food ingredients, or chemical powder, a screw conveyor is the correct specification. For coal, rock, or packaged goods, a belt conveyor is preferred.

Do you install screw conveyors across India?

Yes — PAN India installation and commissioning by Neo Conveyors' own engineers. We serve Delhi NCR, Ghaziabad, Noida, Gurugram, Ahmedabad, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Bangalore, Ludhiana, and all major industrial cities and states. No third-party contractors — our team installs and commissions every system.

What is a shaftless screw conveyor used for?

A shaftless screw conveyor has no central shaft — the spiral screw operates inside a wear-resistant liner without a bearing running through the material. This eliminates clogging with sticky, fibrous, or high-moisture materials. Typical applications: sludge from sewage treatment, wet biomass, filter cake from filter presses, and municipal solid waste. Standard screw conveyors are not suitable for these materials.
