Product Overview

What is a Slat Conveyor?

A slat conveyor moves product on a series of rigid metal or aluminium slats fixed across two parallel chains, rather than a flexible belt. Because the slats are positively driven by the chain rather than relying on friction, the conveyor delivers consistent, slip-free transport even under heavy, uneven or high-temperature loads.

The continuous flat-top surface gives full support to large or irregularly shaped components — engine blocks, gearboxes, drums and crates — without the sagging or shifting that a roller bed can allow. Slats can be specified in mild steel, stainless steel or aluminium depending on load and environment.

Neo Conveyors builds slat conveyors to your line layout, in standard or heavy-duty chain configurations, sized to the weight, footprint and throughput of your production process.

Mechanics

How a Slat Conveyor Works

Positive chain drive — no belt slip, even under heavy or uneven loads.

01

Slat Mounting

Rigid slats are bolted across two parallel roller chains running the full conveyor length.

02

Positive Drive

A sprocket-driven head shaft pulls the chain, eliminating belt slip under heavy load.

03

Continuous Support

The flat slat surface fully supports large or irregular components along their entire base.

04

Return Path

Empty slats return beneath the load-carrying run, ready for the next cycle.

Buying Guide

How to Select the Right Slat Conveyor

Eight factors that determine the correct slat material, chain and drive configuration.

01

Product Weight

Sets the required chain type and slat thickness.

02

Product Dimensions

Determines conveyor width and slat spacing.

03

Conveyor Length

Affects drive power and number of modular sections.

04

Temperature

Hot components require heat-resistant slat and chain specification.

05

Throughput

Sets the required conveyor speed and drive sizing.

06

Automation Level

PLC integration needed for synchronised multi-station lines.

07

Required Production Rate

Drives cycle time and conveyor indexing requirements.

08

Environmental Conditions

Dust, oil or washdown exposure changes material and sealing choices.
