Assembly Line Conveyor Systems — Production Automation by Neo Conveyors
Neo Conveyors is a specialist assembly line conveyor manufacturer in India since 2007. The right assembly line conveyor does not merely move product from station to station — it controls the rhythm of your entire production floor, synchronising operator pace, eliminating bottlenecks, and ensuring every unit reaches each workstation at precisely the right time. We engineer every system around your takt time, product dimensions, number of workstations, and floor layout — then manufacture and commission it with our own team, anywhere in India. We build four types: belt, roller, chain, and slat assembly conveyors — individually or combined into one integrated production line system.

How an Assembly Line Conveyor System Works
An assembly line conveyor is a precision-paced production system, not just a transport belt. Every element — speed, spacing, buffer zones, station positions — is calculated to your takt time before manufacture.
Takt Time Calculation
Before any design starts, we calculate your takt time: available shift minutes ÷ required daily output. This single number determines conveyor speed, station spacing, and buffer zone depth — the engineering foundation of the entire system.
Controlled Belt/Chain Speed
VFD-controlled motor drives the conveyor at the exact speed required by your takt time — from 0.05 m/s for complex assembly to 1.5 m/s for light high-speed lines. Speed is adjustable from the control panel for different product variants or shift targets.
Workstation Spacing
Each operator station is spaced at the takt time interval. When the conveyor moves one station-length, the operator must have completed their task. This enforces line discipline and prevents the slowest station from dictating total line output.
Accumulation Zones
Buffer accumulation zones between production sections absorb short stoppages at individual stations without cascading back through the whole line. A 2–3 station buffer between each section prevents a 30-second delay from stopping 20 workers.
Inspection & Reject Stations
Dedicated inspection stations with reject gates are built into the line. Failed units are diverted automatically via pneumatic gates triggered by sensors, vision systems, or operator switches — without stopping the main conveyor flow.
4 Types of Assembly Line Conveyors We Manufacture
Each type is matched to a specific product weight, surface requirement, and assembly process. Many production lines use two or three types in combination — our engineers specify the correct type for each zone of your line.
Belt Assembly Conveyor
Smooth PVC, PU, or anti-static belt surface — ideal for electronics, small appliances, light components, and pharma products requiring a clean, quiet, controllable carrying surface. Lowest cost, widest speed range.
Roller Assembly Conveyor
Powered rollers carry heavy, rigid-base products — engine sub-assemblies, gearboxes, castings, and industrial equipment. Accumulation between stations without motor overload. Stop-and-go capability at each workstation built in.
Chain Assembly Conveyor
Double or single strand forged chain carries pallets, fixtures, and heavy sub-assemblies at controlled, slow speed. Ideal for automotive powertrain, heavy industrial equipment, and fixture-based assembly where product must stay in a fixed orientation throughout the line.
Slat Assembly Conveyor
Rigid flat slats (steel or plastic) create a stable, flush platform for large appliances — refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners — that cannot rest on a belt or rollers. Slat width and material selected for product base dimensions and operator ergonomics.
Manual Production vs Assembly Line Conveyor Automation
Manufacturing managers who have moved from manual production to a conveyorised assembly line consistently identify the same improvements: more consistent output, fewer bottlenecks, better line balance, and lower operator fatigue.
| ❌ Manual Production (Without Conveyor) | ✅ With Assembly Line Conveyor System |
|---|---|
| Inconsistent product flow — fastest operators idle while slowest catch up | Controlled conveyor speed creates uniform rhythm across all stations |
| Bottlenecks accumulate at slow stations and cascade backward | Accumulation buffer zones absorb short delays without stopping the line |
| Operators carry, push, and reposition product between stations | Belt or chain delivers each product to the operator — zero repositioning |
| No enforcement of cycle time — faster operators create variation | Takt time enforced by conveyor speed — consistent output per hour |
| Hard to measure or improve throughput without video analysis | Line speed = direct, measurable units-per-hour with VFD readout |
| Workers fatigue from standing, walking, and product handling | Ergonomic fixed workstations — operators work at the correct height |
| Quality inspection is informal and inconsistent | Dedicated inspection and reject stations built into the line |
| Difficult to scale output without proportional headcount increase | Increase VFD speed to increase output — no new workstations needed |

Assembly Line Conveyor — Real Installations by Neo Conveyors
Three representative production line projects — showing before-and-after results across different industries, product types, and output requirements.
Belt Assembly Conveyor — LED Driver Assembly
A lighting manufacturer assembling LED drivers across 14 workstations was experiencing 25–35% idle time at downstream stations because of inconsistent manual pace at upstream positions. Product was being manually passed between operators — with no takt time enforcement.
Neo Conveyors installed a 28-metre ESD-safe belt assembly conveyor with 2-metre workstation spacing, VFD speed set to takt time (72 seconds per unit at 50 units/hour), and an accumulation buffer between sections 1 and 2. Anti-static belt with frame grounding.
Chain & Roller Assembly Line — Engine Sub-Assembly
An automotive components supplier assembling diesel engine sub-assemblies across 18 stations needed to increase output from 60 to 90 units per shift without adding floor space or additional headcount. Manual product transfer was causing 15–20 minutes of lost time per shift.
Neo Conveyors designed an integrated system: chain conveyor for heavy block transport between stations 1–8, roller assembly conveyor for stations 9–18 (lighter sub-assembly), with 3-unit accumulation between the two sections and pneumatic stop pins at each station.
Slat Assembly Conveyor — Air Conditioner Production
An air conditioner manufacturer assembling split AC indoor units across 10 stations was losing 15–20% of shift time to manual repositioning of large units between workstations. Units were being pushed on wheeled trolleys with inconsistent spacing and no pace control.
Neo Conveyors installed a 22-metre slat assembly conveyor with 2.2-metre workstation spacing — takt time 90 seconds per unit at 36 units/hour. Fixed-height stands with operator footrests and overhead cable trays for power tool suspension.
Belt Assembly Conveyor vs Slat Assembly Conveyor
The two most commonly compared assembly conveyor types — understanding where each performs better prevents expensive re-specification after installation.
| Factor | Belt Assembly Conveyor | Slat Assembly Conveyor |
|---|---|---|
| Best product type | Light-medium: electronics, pharma, small appliances | Large/heavy: fridges, ACs, washing machines |
| Surface stability for large products | Belt flexes slightly — not ideal for large footprints | Rigid flat slats — stable platform for any base size |
| Speed range | 0.05–1.5 m/s — widest speed range | 0.02–0.5 m/s — slower by design |
| Load capacity | Up to 50 kg/m standard | Up to 300 kg per unit — designed for heavy loads |
| ESD-safe option | Yes — anti-static belt and frame available | Limited — slat material choice affects ESD |
| Noise level | Quiet — ideal for electronics and pharma | Moderate — chain drive produces noise |
| Maintenance | Low — belt replacement only | Moderate — chain and slat lubrication required |
| Capital cost | Lower — simplest drive system | Higher — chain drive and rigid slat construction |
